Since Paul says...Romans 7:17-25 (KJV) Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.
For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.
For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.
Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.
I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.
For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:
But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.

I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.
So to thirst after righteousness is to, notice this says "THIRST", and specifically this is "DRINKING", and to drink, as Jesus tells the Samaritan woman at Jacobs well...John 4:7-10 (KJV) There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink.
(For his disciples were gone away unto the city to buy meat.)
Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans.
Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.
Here this refers to "RIGHTEOUSNESS ",as "WATER", which is "THE FILLING OF THE HOLY GHOST", which is our righteousness's.
To understand this is to have, and know that this woman, i can, you can be sure that she was in the upper room as one of the 120. There she received the water, her thirst for righteousness's was fulfilled by the "HOLY GHOST" God, the invisible God, as the Finger of God, the same finger of God that wrote the "TEN COMMANDANTS", upon "TABLES OF STONE", that was in both cases, writing the "WORDS OF GOD", that Jesus preached for 42 months, writing them upon the heart off those 120 in the upper room.
You see, had not Jesus gave his life, he lay down his life...John 10:16-18 (KJV) And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.
Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again.
No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.
You must understand that not one, no not one, Peter trusted, along with the 120 for this "CUP"....Luke 22:14-22 (KJV) And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him.
And he said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer:
For I say unto you, I will not any more eat thereof, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God.
And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves:
For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come.
And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.
Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.
But, behold, the hand of him that betrayeth me is with me on the table.
And truly the Son of man goeth, as it was determined: but woe unto that man by whom he is betrayed!
Here the disciples...Luke 22:23 (KJV) And they began to enquire among themselves, which of them it was that should do this thing.
You see, not one of the other eleven knew who this was, Jesus waits until the time was appointed to tell them about how Satan Incarnate in flesh, but Judas was the "SEED OF SATAN", and was he ever righteous in his own eyes, in the outward man.
As Paul explains, our righteousness's in flesh is "ZIP", absolutely "ZERO".
So, Peter would not, could not, although he walked with Christ, just as Abraham walked in faith, not one could enter Paradise until the Holy Ghost gives a "DRINK OF HIS BLOOD", which is life, but eternal life can only come to those that "THIRST FOR THE FILLING OF THE HOLY GHOST ", which is God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost!
Try drinking one cup of water for your flesh, and tell me that that "ONE CUP WILL SUBSTAIN YOU FOR MONTHS, YEARS TO COME"?
But the cup of the Spirit, that cup is both "BREAD OF LIFE, THE WORD OF GOD, WHICH IS ETERNAL WATER THAT WE NEVER THIRST AGAIN.
As long as we thirst after the water of life, eternal life, we come to the well to draw out of the Holy Ghost, and like Jacobs Well, was deep, you don't have to come every day to draw the water of life, it is in you, placed there by "THE HOLY GHOST", the "ETERNAL LIFE THIRST QUENCHER", it does this...Revelation 7:14-17 (KJV) And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
Therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple: and he that sitteth on the throne shall dwell among them.
They shall hunger no more, neither thirst anymore; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat.
For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.
You see, the Holy Ghost is "THE RIVER OF LIFE", that, as this says...Revelation 22:1-18 (KJV) And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.
In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.
And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him:
And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads.
And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign forever and ever.
And he said unto me, These sayings are faithful and true: and the Lord God of the holy prophets sent his angel to shew unto his servants the things which must shortly be done.
Behold, I come quickly: blessed is he that keepeth the sayings of the prophecy of this book.
